Hard riffs, catchy melodies, and non-stop stagedives! Two and a Half Girl is a five-piece band from Utrecht, founded in 2018. Their debut full-length ‘Evidence Of A Broken Mind‘ will be out on Suburban Records, with a German tour following in November. After playing shows all spring with bands like Tusky, Tiny Moving Parts and Beachdog, the quintet will release the follow-up to their 2020 EP ‘Disconnected’. During the pandemic, the band did not sit still but instead played multiple livestreams and released their single ‘Worse Days’, turning corona related frustrations into something positive. I can’t get back the years that I’ve been living live so wrong But everybody has to fall down before they ever grow strong – Life In Overdrive Taking their frustrations and turning it into something positive seems to be a common thread in this young band’s existence. Lyrically, Two and a Half Girl does not shy away from any sensitive subjects, choosing instead to hold up a mirror, to both themselves itself and their listeners. Even if this image does not show the desired reflection. They are not afraid to reveal themselves, drawing inspiration from their own experiences and problems, such as the taboo surrounding mental health, and discussing all kinds of problems, like the lack of acceptance of homosexuality in 70 countries worldwide: What a sick world are we living in Where some kind of love is still a sin Can you imagine in how many places I can’t be myself, can’t show my real face In so many countries I still risk punishment Or even death penalty by homophobic governments I still can’t be myself in 70 countries – 70 To write lyrics and record guitar and bass, the band rented a house in the French countryside. Drums were recorded by Alwin van der Knijff at Mailmen Studios (Utrecht NL), vocals and percussion were recorded by the band themselves in dBs (Utrecht NL). Mixing was done by Alwin van der Knijff, master by Pieter Kloos (The Void).
